Truffle sport search is a canine discipline that strengthens the bond between dog and handler through scent discrimination. The methods and materials used vary among federations, but the rules also change within the same federation depending on the category. In advanced levels, the handler has fewer allowed movements and the dog works silently, without immediate rewards. There are two main modes: retrieval and indication. In retrieval, the dog finds and delivers the truffle to the handler, while in indication, the dog signals the truffle's location by assuming a specific position, allowing the handler to dig. In both modes, dog and handler work closely together, albeit in different stages.
