La Verna - Franciscan Sanctuary
Located on the monumental cliff of Mount Penna, the Sanctuary of La Verna is one of the most sacred and evocative places of Christianity, famous for being the place where St. Francis received the Stigmata in 1224. Immersed in an ancient forest of beech and fir trees, the architectural complex seems to emerge directly from the living rock, offering breathtaking views of the Casentino valley. The beating heart of the sanctuary is the Basilica, flanked by the Church of Santa Maria degli Angeli and the evocative corridor of the Stigmata, decorated with splendid robbiane. Visitors can walk the silent paths that lead to the Sasso Spicco, breathing an atmosphere of absolute peace and profound spirituality. It is an essential destination that combines faith, art history, and a wild nature of rare beauty.
