The Crypt of the Capuchins, located on Via Veneto, is one of the most fascinating and eerie places in Rome. This small ossuary is situated beneath the Church of Santa Maria della Concezione dei Cappuccini and houses the remains of approximately 4,000 Capuchin friars, arranged in intricate artistic compositions along the walls and ceilings.

Constructed in the 17th century, the crypt is divided into six chapels, each decorated with skulls, tibias, vertebrae, and other human bones, used to create geometric patterns, arches, and even chandeliers. The effect is as macabre as it is fascinating, making the visit a unique experience. Among the most famous inscriptions in the site is the phrase:
"What you are, we were; what we are, you will be."
A reminder of the transience of life and a reflection on the passing of time.
Why visit?

  • A unique experience blending art and spirituality
  • A place that prompts reflection on life and death
  • A lesser-known piece of Roman history

Perfect for mystery and history enthusiasts, the Crypt of the Capuchins is one of the most evocative stops for those wishing to discover the enigmatic side of Rome.
