The Clock Tower

The Clock Tower: a journey into the medieval heart of Trevignano Romano

The Clock Tower of Trevignano Romano is one of the most representative symbols of the village, located at the entrance of the historic center. It was built in medieval times as an integral part of the country's defensive system, serving as an access gate and observation point. Originally part of the walls that protected Trevignano Romano.

The tower stands out for its essential architecture, typical of medieval military structures, with local stones used for construction. Inside, it preserves traces of its defensive origins, although it has undergone modifications over the centuries. One of the most significant additions is the clock, installed towards the end of the 19th century, which gave it the civic function of marking time for the village inhabitants.

In recent years, the ancient clock mechanism has been restored thanks to the intervention of a master clockmaker, Matteo La Torre, restoring it to its original function. This restoration has further enhanced the value of the tower, returning to the community a symbolic and historically important element.

The Clock Tower is not only a historical and architectural landmark but also a place that encapsulates the charm of the past, testifying to the various eras and functions it has had in the life of the village. From its top, one can imagine the panorama that in the past it offered to the guardians, with a view of Lake Bracciano and the surrounding hills.
